Hey hey, Elder Weese in the house. What's going on everybody? Sorry that ya'll weren't able to hear too much from me last week. Had a lot going on that that day. It was another super great week out here in Tulsa Oklahoma and ya… 7 months now?? Crazy!! Time is definitely non existent out here. Well, before I get going, shout out to everyone who was able to send me something for valentines!! Ya'll are awesome and made my valentines a little less lonely… No offense Elder Gibb. But life is still rolling even in high gear. Last Monday for presidents day we had an all day p-day where we went to a place called soccer city where we played tons of sports such as soccer, football, and spike ball (President Mansell is a pro at spike ball by the way). We went to the church afterward and played some b-ball where I showed off my inner Steph Curry!! Haha! But that day was full of physical activity and I ended up being super sore the next day especially in my legs from all that running around.
Well, it was a pretty good week for us this last week. We taught Brian Wood about the word of wisdom. Before that, we were kinda nervous to share this commandment with him because he has a huge smoking problem. He smokes before and after all of our appointments so going into that appointment we were a bit apprehensive. And of course, he needs to be following this commandment if he wants to be baptized on his planned date of March 31.We prayed for some spiritual guidance and for the strength and courage to be bold in our approach with it. In our lesson, it was a miracle, because he told us he had planned to quit smoking for a while now, he was just waiting for the doctor to give him a prescription to help out with that. He knows the bad smoking will do and he has a desire to stop. He has quit before for a bit, but now he wants to stop for good. Of course, the hard thing is also getting his wife to support him by not smoking anymore too. But he plans on living the word of wisdom as we told him the blessings and benefits that can come out of it.
We also have a brand new teaching opportunity that we found with this man named Salim. He was born in the Palestine part of Jerusalem so he grew up Muslim his whole life. Later on, as he got out of Jerusalem, he noticed the affect Christianity had especially on the people here in Oklahoma. He knew who Jesus Christ was obviously because he was born in Jerusalem but has always been curious of who he was and why we need him and if he really is the son of God. He has read the Bible twice, once in English and the other in Arabic and he has a ton of questions. He went to a Reyma Bible College and he told us that none of them were able to answer his questions, so through a friend of his, who is a member of our church, he was able to reach out to us for help for answers to his questions. I can't wait to teach him some more, only saw him for a brief moment but it is gonna be quite a new teaching opportunity for me. It will be difficult, but exciting because I get to teach him about my Savior and to help him come into a realization of who he really is.
Well for me, I have been doing very well! Missionary life has brought me so much joy and comfort and it is just so hard to describe it. For example, yesterday I was pretty frustrated from the moment I woke up. I had a pretty harsh dream that reminded me of some personal missed opportunities that I had when I was home and it was stuck in my mind. I had a pretty bad morning because of it, but because of the glory of daily study, I was able to find strength right away really without even trying. I just went along in my studies as I have always went along, continuing my studies in the Book of Mormon. I am in 3 Nephi where Christ has made his appearance in the American continent. Before he leaves the first time, the people were extremely sad and wanted him to stay because they hadn't experienced much peace in their lives that Christ was able to provide for them. Christ told them to bring up all those who are suffering from any matter of illness or affliction so they could be healed. This is in chapter 17 where his bowels are filled with compassion towards them and tells them there faith has made them sufficient even unto healing. Once I read that I thought to myself of the difficulty I was having in the morning, and immediately that load seemed light and I got on my knees and thanked my Heavenly Father for my Savior!! I want to let ya'll know that Jesus Christ is real, he is the son of God, and that no manner of hardship or tribulation is impossible when you have him by your side. He has put bandages on many wounds and has wiped many tears through the hard days I have had out here. It makes it totally worth it and this relationship I have built with him is something I wouldn't trade for anything in this world! I'm thankful for ya'll and for the wonderful support you have put an effort in giving me! I love ya'll and hope ya'll have another fantastic week!!
Love,
Elder Weese
